The theme of the conference this year, is‘Ideas, Impact and Innovation’

CLEO aims to provide a supportive network of legal educators who are involved in providing clinical legal education.  Often staff working in law clinics are working in small teams and are slightly removed or separated from the rest of their law department.  We therefore believe that it is important to develop networks and collaborations across law schools to support our members to develop their practice and to create space to:

  • share new ideas;
  • explore the impact that clinics have (on students, our communities and our institutions); and
  • discuss innovations.

With this aim in mind, we are looking for two different types of contributions to our conference this year.  Lightning talks and Roundtables.

Lightning Talks – Ideas, Impact and Innovation in Law Clinics

10 minute presentation sharing:

  • an idea or practice that has worked particularly well in your clinic (or one that didn’t and you want to share what you’ve learnt);
  • thoughts on, or evidence of, the impact of clinic; or
  • a recent innovation in clinical legal education or associated research.

Lightning talks could be in relation to legal practice, services to clients or education.

Roundtables – Developing and Supporting Networks

Following positive feedback on this format at last year’s CLEO conference, we will once again be facilitating a number of roundtables. Please propose a roundtable that you would like to chair.  Proposals should include a title for the roundtable and some themes to be discussed in the meeting.  The Roundtable meetings will last for around an hour and 15 minutes.  The aim of the roundtable is to facilitate collaboration and partner working across institutions.  Roundtables might be themed around a particular area of law – e.g. family law, or may be themed around types of clinic work, e.g. policy work or assessment practices or areas of research into CLE.  Roundtables can build on existing networks and groups or aim to develop new connections.
